Weekend project - behind schedule
May. 28th, 2006 02:36 pmI regretfully left the LOTW party at 11:30 last night, so I could have some hope of getting things done this weekend. My primary project for the weekend was to install a ventilation fan in the attic to move air from our overheated (by computers) office into our living room. For this I have a 6" duct fan, 50' of flexible duct, and miscellaneous electrical bits. I expected this to be a two day project. My progress so far:
Day 1
- Figured out how to get power*
- Made "as built" wiring diagram for whole house fan installed two years ago*
- Drew wiring schematics on hard surfaces near each terminal box so I won't have to go through this again!*
- Planned duct routing
- Physically mounted the fan
- Wired the fan cutoff switch box
- Found that the box which I bought for the control relay is too small for the relay and all those wires
- Installed a needed duct "Y" onto the fan
- Decided it was too f***ing hot up there and quit for the day
* These items were unexpected and not part of the plan!
Now its time to make a run to the hardware store for a new box. Then I get to play catch up tomorrow morning.
Day 2 Plan
- Wire the control relay box
- Connect to main power
- Program the relay controller
- Test to fan
- Route intake duct to the office and secure with straps
- Cut hole in office ceiling, install intake grill, attach and seal duct
- Route output duct to living room and secure with straps
- Cut hole in living room ceiling, install grill (tall ladder required!), attach and seal duct
- Encore! If time and energy remain, route an intake duct to master bonus room and attach to the aforementioned "Y". If not, seal "Y" with tape and wait for future date for this task.
- Cleanup office and living room from dust/debris generated cutting holes in the ceiling
- Enjoy cooler, better office
Wow, that looks like alot for one day!
